Decades of Community-Building
Throughout Rejlers’ history, we have retained our family-owned character. Today our people compete for the largest projects but we are still the “big small” company of our industry, with a friendly culture, streamlined decision-making and no unnecessary bureaucracy.
Decade by decade, Rejlers has assisted in meeting the major technological challenges for society:
In the 2020s, the major challenges are future-proofing our communities, executing the transition to a fossil-free energy supply and transforming industries to sustainable operations and business models. Just as always, Rejlers is at the forefront helping customers create a sustainable future through knowledge.
In the 2010s, the rapid digitalisation of society, business and trade begins. Once again, Rejlers is at the forefront and helps customers in their digitalisation journey. Rejlers establishes itself in Norway and further strengthens its digital expertise, especially in the energy field.
Rejlers is introduced on the stock exchange in Sweden in 2003. The business continues to grow through the ongoing large investments in expanding broadband and telecommunications. Rejlers undertakes significant projects for several major players in the industry.
Sweden’s economy is in a serious crisis and the construction industry is among the worst-affected sectors. Rejlers responds by shifting its focus to railway construction and is part of the government’s major railway expansion initiative from the 1990s onwards.
Starting at the end of the 1970s, Sweden’s airports and ports are greatly expanded all around the country. Rejlers’ technical experts are hired to secure the vital power supply of these national infrastructure projects. In parallel, the booming construction sector is accounting for a large part of Rejlers’ business. In 1980 Rejlers expands its operations to Finland.
A further step in the development of the Swedish energy system is taken with the expansion of nuclear power. Rejlers employs leading nuclear engineers and is involved in the coming decades’ construction of Sweden’s nuclear power plants. The areas of activity now include power, industry, construction and nuclear power.
To combat the housing shortage, the Swedish Government launches a huge initiative to build one million new affordable housing units for its citizens – the so-called Million Programme. Thanks to leading expertise in the field, Rejlers is hired to ensure necessary power and electrical installations.
Rejlers plays a key role in providing the Gothenburg shipbuilding industry with power and gets important assignments in developing the industry itself, including the construction of shipyards. This experience leads to more industrial projects throughout Sweden.
Founded in 1942, Rejlers’ first project involves the use of local peat bogs to make Kronoberg in Småland electrically self-sufficient. The power engineer Gunnar Rejler successfully takes on the task, which leads to further electrification projects in the rest of Småland, Östergötland and Gothenburg.
